Philip Treacy is a famous in all over the world hat designer. This outstanding man was born on the 26th of May, 1967 in Ireland (Ahascragh, County Galway) in a large friendly family – parents, seven brothers and a sister. In his childhood he was fond of watching the weddings, as there was not much to do at this small village. Now his permanent place of living is London. Philip started sewing when he was only 5-years-old and that was what he liked doing. His first hats and dresses were made for sister’s dolls and other toys. Materials were various, Philip’s mother had ducks, chickens and other poultry, so the boy used everything: fabric, feathers. Once their neighbor asked: Is it strange for a boy to sew dresses for dolls? And Philip’s father answered, yeah, but if only this can make our boy happy!
In 1985 Treacy went to Dublin and studied there at the National l College of Art and Design, and namely there he started making his famous hats, but, of course, they were just a successful addition to clothes. In 1988 Philip got a place at the Royal College of Art. He was a lucky dog, they don’t have a hat course, so they made experiments on Philip and they both the College and Philip succeeded.
In 1989 he met his future muse – Isabella Blow, she was getting married and chose a medieval theme for her wedding and she didn’t have an appropriate wedding hat. Philip was stunned – Issie was the first person to whom pearls and veiling was completely unnecessary while making a wedding hat.

Then came years of hard-working and world’s recognition. He worked together and for the following people Alexander McQueen’s, Karl Lagerfeld (at Chanel). Not so far ago he was granted with the title of British Accessory Designer of the Year. In 2005 he happened to produce hats for the royal wedding of the Prince of Wales to the Duchess of Cornwall. In 2006 was start a new collection for Umbro. This collection is excepted to be exciting and surprising, yet very unusual and collaborative. Also as the Independent reported in Britain he was announced to be in the 100 most influential gays in Great Britain.
