Ruth had a young daughter – Barbara who while playing with her dolls, adored giving them adult roles. Most toys were made in the form of infants. So, after returning to the USA Ruth designed her own doll, her husband worked at the Mattel Toy Company and on March 9, 1959 Barbie was born. Her full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts.
