Stephen Jones is a famous person in a hat industry and fashion. He can make a masterpiece from a hat, his hats are intriguing and very original. Always reflect the spirit of time.

Life of the designer used to be interesting and full of bold decisions. Have you ever heard about the legendary Blitz nightclub? Jones was its member, to tell the truth, a very significant member – he was always perfectly dressed and had an extraordinary hat on his head. Stephen was born in Cheshire, finished school in Liverpool and studied at St Martins. In 1980 he opened his first hat store in the middle of London’s Covent Garden.

Stephen hats can be called a provocation, so if any celebrity or a star wanted to burst the headlines, she or he went to Jones Stephen – he is perfect at this. To his current clients belong: Pink, Marilyn Manson, Beyonce Knowles and Gwen Stefani. One of the most amazing masterpieces (made not so far) is the tiniest of tricornes for Dita Von Teese. Also, he makes hats for collections, the freshest one – for Rei Kawakubo’s Comme des Garçons menswear collection. But, this list is not full without: Claude Montana, Thierry Mugler, Jean-Paul Gaultier and John Galliano for Dior fashion collections.

Nowadays, the center of his life is a marvellous Georgian townhouse, there he lives, creates and designs (not far from the 1st salon). Moreover, he designs a line of JonesGirl accessories (for Japan). Stephens works can be seen in the Louvre (Paris), the Kyoto Costume Institute, Victoria & Albert museum (London) etc. Celebrities in his hats very often can be seen on the covers of the most fashionable and popular magazines.

Events

In July 2007, all the upper-class representatives of London gathered in the Debenham House – Stephen Jones celebrated 25-years of hat designing career: designers, supermodels, best stylists, and other celebrities, his friends and fans celebrated this happy occasion. There were said a lot of praises and warm phrases, also, Stephen was named as one of the most stylish and fashionable designers of the century. The birthday boy was very glad and said, that he can’t believe how quickly the time runs and he adores his business.

Future

Stephen is going to release a new fragrance together with Rei Kawakubo. Design of the bottle and title of fragrance is kept in a secret.

Jean-Paul Gaultier is a very popular French designer, no doubts, it stands in one row with Galliano, Dior, Lacroix and other designers, which really contributed in the development of a fashion world.

It is amazing, but Jean-Paul didn’t get a special education, but he was really talented and adore clothes, so when he was young, he sent his drawings to famous couture stylists and good luck smiled him – in 1970 he became an assistant of Pierre Cardin. Jean-Paul was only 18 years old. But not everything was so smooth, the house was overstuffed and Jean was fired. It was a gloomy period, but he survived it and started working for Jacques Esterel fashion house. In 1974 he returned to Cardin and was immediately sent to Manila, there his works were highly popular. In 1975 – Gaultier came back to France and began saving money…

Gaultier together with Galliano is a provocateur. His own collection was presented in 1976 (with the help of Francis Menuge) and only in 1981 he finally developed his own style, yeah, it was bold, street-like, unusual and a bit strange, but it was fresh and bright, it made a revolution in tired from classic France. Gaultier designed a notoriously famous cone-bra for Madonna Blond Ambition Tour and she returned to him in 2006. He worked with Luc Besson, while designing a wardrobe for his movie “The Fifth Element”, Marilyn Manson, Pedro Almodóvar and other celebrities.

If you have ever seen at least one catwalk from Gaultier, you will understand, why for many years, he had a reputation of a really bad boy of the fashion world – his models are unconventional (fat women, old men etc.), gender roles are switched… But, nevertheless, he is still popular.

Where Gaultier is, there is an intrigue. He has one of the most recognizable faces in the world.

But, clothes making is not his only talent, he makes even more popular parfumes (actually, I adore them. I have never met more long-lasting fragrance. The first fragrance from Jean-Paul Gaultier is – Classique. It has seen the world in 1993 and is a women’s floral-oriental perfume. It was on the top of sales. And still is rather popular, especially in Europe, Australia and the USA.

To tell the truth, I wanna pay your attention to the autumn/winter collection 2007 (I mean the previous collection). It was of religious theme, but the devotion to religion and worshipping to it doesn’t look ridiculuos, he made people think about religion. Each model had a halo, their faces were pale. It wasn’t a mock.
